Two exciting opportunities are available for passionate Primary and Secondary ESL Teacher at a leading independent K-12 school in Sydney's South West. Key Duties:

  • Targeted English Language Teaching: Provide explicit instruction in English language skills, focusing on both conversational (BICS) and academic (CALP) language development.
  • Assessment of Language Proficiency: Utilise tools like the ACARA EAL/D Learning Progression to assess students' English proficiency levels and monitor their progress.
  • Differentiated Support: Deliver instruction tailored to students' proficiency levels, which may include small group sessions, one-on-one support, or co-teaching arrangements.
  • Co-Planning and Co-Teaching: Work collaboratively with classroom and subject teachers to design and implement lessons that integrate language development with curriculum content.
  • Professional Development: Provide guidance and support to colleagues on effective strategies for teaching EAL/D students, including scaffolding techniques and culturally responsive practices.
  • Curriculum Adaptation: Assist in modifying curriculum materials to make them accessible to EAL/D students, ensuring alignment with their language development needs.
  • Resource Development: Create or source appropriate teaching resources that support the language and literacy development of EAL/D learners.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and evaluation of school-wide EAL/D programs and policies, ensuring they meet the diverse needs of the student population.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse student performance data to inform instructional practices and program adjustments.
  • Communication with Families: Engage with parents and caregivers to discuss students' progress, providing information in accessible formats and languages when necessary.
  • Cultural Liaison: Act as a bridge between the school and culturally diverse communities, promoting inclusivity and understanding.

Skills & Experience:

  • Hold a recognised primary or secondary teaching qualification with ESL teaching eligibility
  • Proven teaching experience within NSW schools
  • Current and valid NESA registration
  • Possess a valid Working with Children Check for employment
  • Full, unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Able to provide two professional references from an educational setting
