Based in Melbourne's Inner North Suburbs, Melbourne City Mission are recruiting for an experienced psychologist to join their Disability Services Team.

The Role:

Tradewind Australia have partnered with Melbourne City Mission who are recruiting for an experienced psychologist to join their Disability Services Team.

You will be responsible for delivering individualised strategies for people with disability that are responsive to the person's needs, in a way that reduces the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimises the use of restrictive practices.

Working across several supported independent living facilities located in Melbourne's Inner North Suburbs, you will offer tailored support services to people with a disability and their families through a range of services including Support Coordination, Supported Independent Living Services, Out of Home Care and community-based programs and support.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with the Senior Manager, Complex Supports, to grow and develop MCM Behaviour Support Services including the development of business processes, referral pathways and recruitment processes.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to a growing team of Behaviour Support Practitioners, ensuring that Practitioners meet the standards required by the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commission, including regular supervision, review of draft BSP's and authorisation of restrictive practices.
  • Ensure Behaviour Support Practitioners meet set billable hours targets and other Key Performance Indicators.
  • Develop individualised strategies for people with disability that are responsive to the person's needs, in a way that reduces the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimises the use of restrictive practices.
  • Undertake functional behavioural assessments to develop behaviour support plans containing evidence-based, proactive strategies that meet the specific needs of the person displaying behaviour of concern.
  • Develop, oversee, and ensure behaviour support plans to meet both clinical and NDIS requirements in consultation with the person with disability, their family, carers and other relevant people and service providers who will be implementing the plan.
  • Focus on person-centred interventions to address the underlying causes of behaviours of concern or challenging behaviours, while safeguarding the dignity and quality of life of people with disability who require specialist behaviour support.
  • Ensure SIL Support staff are appropriately trained to implement positive behaviour strategies or use restrictive practices.
  • Prepare monthly reporting to the NDIS Commission on the use of restrictive practices.

Requirements

To be eligible to apply the successful applicant would require:

  • Tertiary qualification in Psychology qualified to deliver behaviour support services.
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
  • A full Australian driver's license
  • Substantial experience providing psychological services to people and children with disability.
  • Extensive clinical knowledge and expertise in providing behaviour assessments and demonstrate comprehensive behaviour support planning skills.
  • Extensive experience in providing clinical and/or behaviour assessment, intervention and support in the disability, out-of-home care sectors.
  • A working knowledge of the NDIS and relevant disability legislation.
