An exciting opportunity exists to join a specialist alternative learning program designed for young people aged 10-16 who have been involved in the youth justice system and are disengaged from schooling. This new initiative provides a holistic and supportive environment where young people can reconnect with education, training and employment pathways.

Each class has just 10 students, supported by a dedicated teacher, teacher aide, family support worker and a Youth Specialist.

About the Role

As a Youth Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting young people to re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide mentoring, case management, and wellbeing support while building strong connections with families and community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people and their families

  • Develop and deliver case management plans using a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach

  • Facilitate activities that support wellbeing, life skills, and positive youth development

  • Provide mentoring, advocacy and practical support for young people with complex needs

  • Collaborate with schools, government and community agencies to ensure wraparound support

  • Maintain accurate case notes and contribute to monitoring and evaluation of program outcomes

What We're Looking For:

  • Demonstrated experience working with young people disengaged from school, involved in youth justice, or experiencing complex challenges

  • Experience in youth work, case management, or related fields

  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and intergenerational disadvantage

  • Strong communication, organisation and time management skills

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Current driver's licence

  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
