Youth Specialist
Full-time | SCHADS 4 | Salary Packaging | Mount Isa | Relocation Assistance
An exciting opportunity exists to join a specialist alternative learning program designed for young people aged 10-16 who have been involved in the youth justice system and are disengaged from schooling. This new initiative provides a holistic and supportive environment where young people can reconnect with education, training and employment pathways.
Each class has just 10 students, supported by a dedicated teacher, teacher aide, family support worker and a Youth Specialist.
About the Role
As a Youth Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting young people to re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide mentoring, case management, and wellbeing support while building strong connections with families and community stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Build positive and trusting relationships with young people and their families
Develop and deliver case management plans using a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach
Facilitate activities that support wellbeing, life skills, and positive youth development
Provide mentoring, advocacy and practical support for young people with complex needs
Collaborate with schools, government and community agencies to ensure wraparound support
Maintain accurate case notes and contribute to monitoring and evaluation of program outcomes
What We're Looking For:
Demonstrated experience working with young people disengaged from school, involved in youth justice, or experiencing complex challenges
Experience in youth work, case management, or related fields
Understanding of trauma-informed practice and intergenerational disadvantage
Strong communication, organisation and time management skills
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
Qualifications & Requirements:
Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Current driver's licence
Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
