Role Overview

The Nurse Practitioner provides an advanced nursing practice role within the Emergency Department of our clients hospital with a key focus on specialist AOD screening, assessment, treatment and referral. The role is also responsible for delivering education, building the capacity of ED staff and some project work in relation to the development of AOD capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement innovative strategies to manage complex cases.
  • Develop initiatives to address specific needs within CALD Community
  • Drive the implementation of AOD strategies.
  • Ensure seamless transitions to community-based treatment.
  • Promote evidence-based nursing interventions.
  • Foster communication and teamwork among health professionals.
  • Prioritise support and sensitivity for those in need.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and standards.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge and decision-making in AOD nursing.
  • Initiate and participate in research activities and advocate for the Nurse Practitioner role.
  • Facilitate training, orientation, and professional development.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to staff and students.
  • Collaborate with the team to formulate effective approaches.
  • Contribute to ongoing evaluation and enhancement of services.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Division 3 Registered Nurse or Division 1 Registered Nurse with post basic qualification in psychiatric nursing or AOD holding registration with AHPRA
  • Minimum Certificate IV in AOD if primary qualification is psychiatric nursing
  • Master of Nursing or Master of Nurse Practitioner
