Tenancy Advocate:

Ipswich | Full time | SCHADS 4 + neg.

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to provide expert tenancy advice, advocacy, and support to individuals navigating Queensland's rental system. This is a role that makes a meaningful impact in preventing homelessness and ensuring tenants understand and exercise their rights.

About the Role
As a Tenancy Advocate, you will:

  • Provide information, guidance, and advocacy to tenants under the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008.
  • Support tenants with dispute resolution processes, including the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) and Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT).
  • Connect individuals at risk of homelessness with appropriate government, community, and emergency housing services.
  • Maintain accurate client records and contribute to program reporting and review.
  • Collaborate with a supportive team and external stakeholders, building capacity for self-advocacy and positive tenancy outcomes.

What We're Looking For
You will bring:

  • Experience in tenancy advocacy, housing, homelessness services, or related areas.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to work calmly and respectfully with people experiencing complex challenges.
  • Knowledge of tenancy law (Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008) and experience with QCAT processes (highly regarded).
  • Commitment to professional boundaries, ethics, and continuous development.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (Diploma, Certificate or Degree) or equivalent experience.
  • Current (or capacity to obtain) Police Check, Working With Children Card, and relevant clearances.
  • Proficiency with data management systems and Microsoft applications.
