Job Description

Youth Specialist: Supporting Young People in Cairns

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? We're looking for a dedicated Youth Specialist to join our brand new Program in Cairns, working with young people aged 10-16 years who have been involved in the youth justice system and are disengaged from schooling.

This is your chance to be part of a wraparound, trauma-informed program that helps young people re-connect with education, build skills, and create safer, brighter futures.

About the Role

As a Youth Specialist, you will:

  • Deliver quality youth work services using a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach.
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with young people and their families.

  • Facilitate activities that promote wellbeing, life skills, and positive youth development.

  • Provide referrals, practical support, and advocacy to address complex needs.

  • Work alongside a team of teachers, family support workers, and community partners to create holistic pathways for young people.

  • Maintain accurate case notes, data, and reporting to measure impact and outcomes.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience working with young people, particularly those in contact with the youth justice system and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

  • Skills in youth work or case management, with a sound understanding of intergenerational trauma.

  • Strong communication, time management, and organisational skills.

  • Commitment to child protection, safeguarding, and cultural safety.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Experience facilitating group programs or youth activities. (desirable)

Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, or a related field (or significant relevant experience).

  • Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card).

  • National Police Check (satisfactory).

  • Current Driver's Licence.

Why Join Us?

  • Belong to a supportive, passionate team making a difference in regional communities.

  • Access training, professional development, and learning opportunities.

  • Be part of an organisation where the child's voice is at the centre of everything we do.

Join us to help young people in Cairns find their place, their voice, and their future.
