Director - HR Strategy & Wellbeing
Pay: $147k +super + salary packaging
Location: Cairns, QLD
Employment Type: Full-time

A well-known not-for-profit delivering human services, community initiatives and advocacy across North and Far North Queensland is seeking an experienced Director - HR Strategy & Wellbeing to join the Management Team. This role will lead people, safety and wellbeing strategy across a growing, frontline service organisation with a strong commitment to being a Child Safe Organisation.
This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape workforce strategy, culture, systems and compliance in a complex, values-driven service environment.


About the Role
As Director - HR Strategy & Wellbeing, you will provide strategic leadership to HR and WHS functions, ensuring workforce capability, wellbeing, safety systems and compliance frameworks align with organisational purpose, values and growth objectives.
You will partner closely with Executive, Senior Management, Board and Committees to drive evidence-informed decision-making, workforce sustainability and organisational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead HR and WHS strategy aligned to organisational objectives and growth
  • Develop, implement and maintain compliant HR policies and procedures
  • Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, performance and retention frameworks
  • Design and deliver organisational training and development (including Child Safe and resilience training)
  • Lead high-level HR and WHS systems design and continuous improvement
  • Provide workforce analytics, reporting and insights to Executive, Board and Committees
  • Embed staff wellbeing, psychosocial safety and inclusive workplace practices
  • Navigate the balance between risk management, compliance and frontline service delivery
  • Build strong internal and external stakeholder partnerships

What You'll Bring
Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Business Management and/or Human Resources
  • Extensive senior management experience within community services or allied sectors
  • Advanced knowledge of WHS, staff wellbeing and psychosocial safety frameworks
  • Demonstrated leadership in HR strategy, policy development and organisational change
  • Proven ability to operate at Executive level and contribute to growth and diversification strategy
  • Strong reporting, governance, compliance and accreditation knowledge
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability
  • Genuine commitment to child safety, inclusion, respectful workplaces and social justice

Desirable

  • Experience working with First Nations people, families, organisations and communities
  • Demonstrated experience leading organisational wellbeing and workforce reform initiatives

Compliance Requirements

  • National Criminal History Check (within 3 months)
  • QLD Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
  • LSC2 Child Safety Screening
  • QLD Driver Licence (Class C or equivalent)
  • Capacity for local, regional and periodic intrastate travel
  • Availability for occasional out-of-hours work
