Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Junior Science Teacher to join our dynamic teaching team at a school in Emerald for the entirety of Term 3. This role is to cover long service leave, providing an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a supportive educational environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and comprehensive science lessons to students in Years 7-9, fostering a love for science through practical experiments, interactive discussions, and innovative teaching methods. Duties include planning and preparing lesson plans, assessing and evaluating student progress, and collaborating with colleagues to enhance the science curriculum. The ideal candidate will possess strong classroom management skills, a commitment to student success, and the ability to adapt lessons to cater to diverse learning needs. A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) are required.

Key duties

  • Lesson Planning and Delivery: Develop and implement engaging science lessons for Years 7-9, using innovative teaching methods.
  • Student Assessment: Assess and report on student progress, providing constructive feedback to support their growth.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive learning environment and manage student behaviour effectively.
  • Curriculum Collaboration: Work with colleagues to plan and enhance the science curriculum, ensuring alignment with standards.
  • Practical Experiments: Organize and supervise safe, hands-on experiments and interactive activities.
  • Parental Communication: Effectively communicate with parents about student progress and participate in parent-teacher conferences.

Skills & Experience:

  • Completed relevant Qualifications in Education
  • Maintain a valid and up-to-date VIT registration
  • Have unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Demonstrate previous experience in teaching science- Graduates are welcome to apply too
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
