About the Role:
Calling all experienced Food Technology Assistants! Tradewind is collaborating with a school located in Newport to offer a 3.5 days per week (0.7 FTE) ongoing position, beginning mid-August. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with dedicated Food Technology classroom teachers. Your role will involve preparing ingredients, supporting students throughout lessons, organizing supplies, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Key duties:

  • Assist the Food Technology teacher in preparing and conducting practical food classes
  • Set up and pack down equipment and ingredients for cooking lessons
  • Support students during practical activities, ensuring they follow instructions and safety procedures
  • Manage and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils, ensuring they are clean, safe, and in good working order
  • Organise and inventory food supplies, ordering new stock as needed
  • Prepare ingredients and materials required for classes, ensuring everything is ready for use
  • Enforce health and safety standards in the classroom, ensuring compliance with school policies and regulations
  • Conduct regular checks and maintenance of kitchen equipment to ensure a safe learning environment
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling in line with school policies
  • Support the teacher with administrative tasks such as photocopying, filing, and organizing lesson materials
  • Provide individual or small group support to students, particularly those who may need extra help
  • Encourage and assist students in developing practical cooking skills and understanding nutritional concepts

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous Food Tech assistance experience highly regarded
  • Unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Food Handling certification
  • Education Support certificate III, IV or equivalent
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years

Offering:

  • Part time 3.5 days (0.7), in an ongoing role
  • Mid-August start
  • Salary based on experience ($50k-70k- full time)
  • Working out of Altona North, Newport or Williamstown campuses
  • Preparedness to travel between campuses
