About the Role:
A fantastic opportunity is available for an experienced Year Level Leader (POL 3) starting in 2025 at a small, supportive, multicultural Catholic Secondary School in Melbourne's inner West. This pivotal role focuses on promoting student well-being, academic success, and spiritual growth, including pastoral care, monitoring progress, enforcing discipline, and fostering collaboration among teachers, leadership, and parents. Despite a growing student body, the school maintains a close-knit, supportive environment. Key duties:

  • Implement explicit instructional practice.
  • Adhere to State and National course requirements including the standards of professional practice - Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSIL) and Victorian Institute for Teaching (VIT).
  • Meet directly with the leadership team within the school to develop formal and informal student leadership
  • Communicate relevant information to various staff regarding students' social, emotional, physical, and academic wellbeing.
  • Be responsible for the organisation and administration of House assemblies, activities, celebration of events, sharing/delegating any of these duties as deemed appropriate.
  • Ensure appropriate behaviour management strategies are implemented and applied when students fail to meet expectations.
  • Support staff in developing strategies for dealing with difficult students.
  • Act as a conduit for parents/guardians/carers, College teaching and administrative staff regarding the learning and wellbeing of individual students. Liaise with parents/guardians/carers matters concerning when a student's behaviour or progress is of serious concern.
  • Maintain accurate, current student records, detailed information of student incidents, parent/teacher discussions and referrals on Simon.
  • Monitor student behaviour, uniform, lateness and absenteeism and relevant learning issues. * Support teachers in parent meetings and provide pastoral support to staff when aware of the need.
  • Provide leadership for all involved in teaching including mentoring, collaborating, and sharing information to encourage continuous improvement in the quality of teaching and learning for students. * Attend Parent Support Group (PSG) meetings for students in your House as required

Skills & Experience:

  • Must have full, unrestricted working rights in Australia.
  • Hold a valid VIT registration.
  • Strong understanding of the Victorian Curriculum, with experience teaching in Victoria or Australia.
  • Hold a minimum 4-year bachelor's degree in education or equivalent, with further study considered an advantage. * Ability to provide two education-based references from upper management, within the last 5 years.
  • Familiarity with Catholic teachings, values, and traditions, or a willingness to work within the Catholic education system.
  • Proven leadership experience in a Secondary educational setting, ideally in Australia
