Senior Financial Counsellor - Mildura
Are you an experienced Financial Counsellor looking to make a real difference in people's lives? Join a dedicated community program supporting individuals and families experiencing financial hardship across the Mallee region.
About the Role
This is a client-facing, casework-focused position working with people experiencing complex challenges including family violence, homelessness, mental health concerns and financial stress. You will build rapport with clients, develop practical financial plans and advocate on their behalf to achieve sustainable outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
Liaising with banks, utility providers and debt agencies
Advocacy and negotiation to reduce financial hardship
Supporting clients to make informed financial decisions
Developing realistic plans to improve financial stability
Working in a trauma-informed, strengths-based way
Providing guidance and informal mentoring within the team
This is not a therapeutic counselling role, the focus is analytical, practical and advocacy-driven, requiring strong problem-solving and communication skills.
About You
To be successful you will have:
Diploma of Financial Counselling (mandatory)
Minimum 3+ years post-qualification experience
Confidence working with complex client presentations
Strong advocacy and negotiation skills
Ideally, experience mentoring or supporting other staff
What's on Offer
35-hour week
Fully on-site role (no WFH)
Salary $95,000 - $105,000 depending on experience
$3,000 relocation bonus available

The Program
Based in Mildura, the service supports local community members through internal and external referrals, including family services and homelessness programs. Outreach is provided to Robinvale and Swan Hill, with strong partnerships across the region.
