Job Description

GENERAL MANAGER - FOSTER & KINSHIP CARE
Full-Time, 130k plus super, car and laptop

We're seeking an experienced General Manager to lead a Foster and Kinship Care portfolio delivering trauma-informed, culturally responsive services for children and young people in family-based care.

You'll provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership to multidisciplinary teams, ensuring safe, high-quality support for children, carers, and families. The role combines people leadership, service improvement, stakeholder engagement, and strong governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a Foster & Kinship Care service in line with organisational values and child-safe principles
  • Build a positive, accountable, trauma-informed culture for staff and carers
  • Oversee service delivery, contracts, compliance, and Child Safe Standards
  • Manage budgets, reporting, risk, and service quality systems
  • Recruit, develop, and support staff within a reflective practice framework
  • Lead carer recruitment, assessment, training, and ongoing support
  • Work closely with government, community, and First Nations partners
  • Champion culturally safe practice and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle

What You Bring

  • Senior leadership experience in Foster & Kinship Care, child protection, or out-of-home care
  • Strong grounding in trauma, attachment, child development, and therapeutic practice
  • Proven experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Solid understanding of relevant legislation, Child Safe Standards, and HSQF
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Experience managing budgets, risk, and program performance

Qualifications & Checks

  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field
  • Working with Children Check, National Police Check, LCS Check
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence
