We are seeking a passionate Social Worker to join a multidisciplinary mental health service in Cairns, providing therapeutic support to people experiencing mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges through a recovery-oriented approach.
Pay: SCHADS Level 5-6 (experience dependent) + super + salary packaging

Tradewind Australia is partnering with a leading community mental health service to recruit a passionate Social Worker to join a multidisciplinary team based at the Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre. This is a meaningful opportunity to provide therapeutic support to people experiencing mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges while working in a welcoming, recovery-focused environment committed to improving community wellbeing.
About the Role
Based within the Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre, this role offers the opportunity to support individuals, families and carers through evidence-informed therapeutic interventions and recovery-oriented care.
Working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will deliver comprehensive assessments, provide therapeutic support and facilitate wellbeing groups designed in partnership with the people accessing the service. You will play a key role in supporting people experiencing distress, helping them access the right supports and empowering them to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
This service provides a safe and accessible entry point for people seeking mental health support in the Cairns community.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive assessments, therapeutic interventions and treatment planning
* Provide person-led, recovery-oriented mental health and wellbeing support
* Facilitate therapeutic and wellbeing groups using a co-design approach
* Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and community stakeholders
* Advocate for individuals and support connection to community services
* Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to risk management processes
* Support families, carers and support networks where appropriate
What You'll Bring
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work
* Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
* AASW Mental Health Accreditation or working towards accreditation
* Demonstrated experience supporting people with mental health and/or AOD challenges
* Strong understanding of recovery-oriented and person-led practice
* Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable
- Experience facilitating therapeutic or wellbeing groups
* Experience working within community mental health or integrated care settings
* Experience working with individuals with complex needs
