Are you a passionate Art Teacher with a commitment to supporting students with diverse and complex needs?

Tradewind is proud to partner with a Special Development School in Melbourne's West, to offer an exciting opportunity for a Primary/Secondary Art Teacher. This full-time role involves delivering creative and inclusive art lessons to students across both primary and secondary levels, most of whom are non-verbal.

With flexible start options this term, you'll be joining a supportive and collaborative team dedicated to providing individualised education in a nurturing environment that values every student's growth, creativity, and expression.

Key duties:

  • Design and deliver accessible, inclusive art lessons that cater to a wide range of developmental, sensory, and communication needs.
  • Use visual aids, adaptive tools, and alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, AAC devices) to support student engagement and expression.
  • Foster creativity and self-expression through a variety of art mediums
  • Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, and classroom staff to integrate therapy goals into art activities.
  • Provide a calm, structured, and sensory-sensitive environment to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Differentiate instruction based on students' individual learning plans (ILPs) and abilities.
  • Celebrate student achievements by displaying artwork throughout the school and participating in community or school-wide exhibitions.
  • Monitor and document student progress in alignment with individual learning goals and Victorian Curriculum - Levels A to D or Foundation-10.
  • Contribute to student reports and participate in student support group (SSG) meetings as required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Must have unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Must have Art Qualifications and current VIT registration
  • Previous experience in a Special Development schools advantageous
  • Ongoing opportunity for those with Special Development qualifications
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).

  • Approximately 200 students ranging from Foundation to Year 12
  • Small class sizes of under 10 students with each class allocated two Education Support staff
