Job Description

Youth Accommodation Support Worker
Pay: SCHADS Award Level 1 (Crisis Accommodation) $38.65 per hour + super + salary packaging
Location: Kingaroy, QLD
Employment Type: Part Time (approx. 60 hours per fortnight) and Casual - 24/7 rotating roster

Tradewind Australia is partnering with a community-based not-for-profit organisation in the South Burnett region to recruit compassionate and reliable Youth Workers for a supported accommodation program for young people experiencing homelessness.

This is a hands-on, shift-based role within a small, high-support youth hostel providing immediate supported accommodation to young people aged 16-25. If you're practical, trauma-informed and passionate about helping young people build independence and secure long-term housing, this is a meaningful opportunity to make a direct impact.

About the Role

As a Youth Accommodation Support Worker, you will provide day-to-day support to young people residing in a six-bed supported youth hostel. Working within a structured 24/7 roster (including day, night, sleepover, weekend and public holiday shifts), you'll support young people to stabilise, develop life skills and transition into safe, sustainable housing.

You will play an active role in intake, risk assessment, case planning and daily engagement, helping young people build the confidence and practical skills needed to maintain long-term accommodation.

Benefits:

  • SCHADS Award Level 1 (Crisis Accommodation stream) + super + salary packaging
  • Approx. 60 hours per fortnight (part-time) with additional casual shifts available
  • Structured supervision and monthly support
  • Two external supervision sessions annually
  • Professional development program with monthly learning targets

    Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct intake conversations, assess referrals and contribute to risk assessments
  • Support young people to develop and actively work towards individualised case plans
  • Provide daily practical support focused on independent living and tenancy skills
  • Assist young people to access housing, services, education, employment and community connections
  • Maintain accurate case notes, client records and database entries within required timeframes
  • Follow medication policies and ensure a safe, structured and supportive living environment
  • Contribute to a clean, hygienic and well-managed hostel environment
  • Participate in handovers, team meetings and ongoing professional development

    What You'll Bring

    Essential
  • Certificate IV in Community Services, Youth Work or similar (minimum requirement)
  • Minimum two years' experience supporting young people experiencing homelessness or housing instability
  • Demonstrated experience using trauma-informed practice
  • Experience supporting clients to access and sustain housing
  • Open Queensland Driver's Licence
  • Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
  • Strong written documentation and time management skills
  • Availability to work across a 24/7 roster including sleepovers, nights and weekends

    Desirable
  • First Aid, CPR and Bronze Medallion (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience using homelessness databases (e.g. QHIP or similar systems)
  • Knowledge of tenancy education programs or life skills training
  • Experience supporting culturally diverse young people in a culturally safe way
