Job Description

The role;

Providing individualised care and support care to children and young people in the Out of Home Care system, ensuring the wellbeing and the safety of the child or the young person is paramount, in compliance with Child Protection Authorities and relevant State Child Protection Legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised support/care to children/young people within the community and in placement.
  • Work as part of the broader care team, providing therapeutic care for the child/young person.
  • Report to Supervisor/Coordinator regarding any support/care related issues, including advise the relevant Supervisor/ Coordinator /After Hours Coordinator immediately after or during an incident. This includes Critical and Non-critical incidents.
  • Complete relevant paperwork regarding the client - this must be done prior to the completion of each shift. For examples Shift reports, Incident reports, and WHS reports.
  • Administration duties, such as managing finances, receipts and invoices received during shift, maintaining client files in the house, use of up-to-date forms.
  • Application of the child's care plan in all day-to-day tasks.
  • Providing guidance to the young person around positive life choices.
  • General household duties, including but not limited to cleaning, shopping and general maintenance.
  • Attend training sessions.
  • Attend carer meetings

Essential Requirements

  • Must hold or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Blue Card issued by the Queensland Government Blue Card Services (QLD). *
  • Must be willing to undergo a Department of Communities Suitability Check (QLD).
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be willing to obtain.
  • Current QLD Open Driver's License.
  • Formal Qualifications are needed (e.g. Certificate III in Community Services or equivalent).
  • Must be willing to enrol and complete certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention. This is a requirement through the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women.
  • Must be willing to complete all modules in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training.
  • Must have completed Hope and Healing course (10 Modules) before commencing shift.

Attributes

  • Sound communication skills, including written communication.
  • Aware of appropriate cultural protocols for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people, and those from CALD backgrounds. *
  • Basic understanding of childhood development & trauma associated behaviours.
