Do you want to make a difference in your Community by supporting young people in out of home care?

We are looking for Residential Youth Workers to provide stability, consistency and security for the children and young people in care.

This role requires the capacity to work day shifts, night shifts, sleepovers, weekends and public holidays. Rates vary from $36/hr for a weekday shift up to $72/hr on a Sunday.

About You:

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Demonstrate high levels of resilience, patience and unconditional positive regard whilst confidently working with challenging behaviours.
  • Act as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage children and young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth.
  • Work both autonomously and as part of a care team.
  • Able to work a varity of shifts in a fortnight
  • Encourage independent living skills including but not limited to, cooking, meal planning, budgeting, shopping and cleaning.
  • Embed strong practice frameworks into daily habits.
  • Provide detailed written reports with the online tools provided, following policy and legislative requirements whilst maintaining full confidentiality.
  • Support the involvement of family and significant others and promote positive relationships.
  • Engage with stakeholders within the community to support the development of children and young people.
  • Provide the essential needs for the children and young people.
  • Be able to support children and young people with complex needs and disabilities.

Essential Requirements

  • Hold, or be working towards, a Certificate IV or higher in Youth and Community Services or related field.
  • A current blue card or be willing to obtain one
  • Open Driver's license.
  • LCS clearance will need to be completed or details provided if obtained within the last 2 years
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Possess high level of integrity, dignity, compassion, diversity and excellence in order to be successful in the role of youth worker

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience attending multi disciplinary meetings and adhering to behavioural and safety plans as provided by external therapeutic specialists and stakeholders.
  • Minimum 6-12 months experience working with children/ young people with complex behaviours, mental health, trauma backgrounds &/or disability.
  • Experience working within Child Protection Residential Care Programs, with an understanding of the complexities that come with working in this environment.
