Safe Places for Children leads the way in providing young people at risk, who have experienced complex and developmental trauma and exhibit challenging behaviours, with intensive trauma-informed therapeutic support. Our approach is individualised, and based on small, stable, and consistent teams that focus on connection and relationship building with the young person to stabilise their behaviours and give them a sense of hope and direction, leading to positive outcomes.
Safe Places for Children was established in 2006 as a not-for-profit (NFP) organisation providing residential care for young people in Queensland. We've cared for over 3000 young people to date.
About the Role
We are seeking a full time Learning Officer to work on-site in Brisbane, providing training primarily across the greater South East Queensland - Ipswich and Logan regions. Some travel may be required to other areas within Qld and WA, as the need arises.
The Learning Officer plays a key role in the design, delivery and evaluation of learning and development functions across the organisation to meet service delivery needs and increase professional development. The role will work in partnership with subject matter experts to create course content that keeps abreast of best practice in residential care to foster a culture of continuous learning and ensure enhanced workforce capability. Being a part of the Learning and Development Team, you will contribute to the growth, development, and success of both individual employees and the organisation.
Responsibilities include:
- Training and Development. Develop training materials and resources that are engaging, accessible, and aligned with the Safe Places mission and values.
- Facilitate the comprehensive Safe Places induction programs for Youth Workers, Case Managers and other operational roles, ensuring they are set up for success when starting their role at Safe Places.
- Organisational alignment. Conduct in-person training sessions on key topics to all areas of Safe Places staff.
- Workforce Capability. Facilitate engaging and effective leadership training for employees at various management levels, ensuring alignment with established content, learning outcomes and organisation goals.
- Work closely with the area office teams and L&D Lead to identify learning needs and gaps in knowledge among staff members and develop targeted training interventions that align to our L&D governance requirements.
- Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, assessments, and observation, and work with the L&D Team to make improvements to enhance learning outcomes.
- Ensure that all training programs meet regulatory and organisational standards and maintain accurate records of training attendance and completion.
About You
Our Learning Officer will bring a genuine passion to make a difference in the lives of young people and our communities, holding certain attributes and demonstrated knowledge and experience. Personable attributes will include:
- Hold a Diploma or higher-level qualification in a Community Service field (desirable).
- Hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40122 or be willing to obtain it.
- Be values based, known for your professionalism, integrity, and trusted
- Confidently facilitate training workshops and utilise a variety of learning methods to support the transfer of learning.
- Have 12-months experience in a training or coaching role.
- Be an excellent communicator with the ability to build strong partnerships.
