Employment Type: Permanent, part-time (0.8 FTE) | 7-day roster

Tradewind Australia is partnering with a well-established mental health service to recruit a Mental Health Nurse for the Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre. This is an opportunity to step into a genuinely impactful role where your clinical skills, judgement and compassion support people at critical points in their mental health journey.

You'll work within a welcoming, multidisciplinary team focused on early intervention, connection and recovery - supporting people to access the right care, at the right time.

About the Role

As a Mental Health Nurse, you will support the establishment and ongoing operations of the Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre, providing person-centred support, education, referral and advocacy across physical, mental and psychosocial health.

You will work closely with primary care providers and community stakeholders to deliver assessment, care coordination and connection to ongoing supports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mental health assessments, screening and risk assessments (including suicide/violence risk)
    * Health education across AOD, medication, nutrition, sexual health and wellbeing
    * Advocacy, referral and follow-up support
    * Facilitate health promotion groups and workshops
    * Care coordination and participation in case reviews
    * Build referral pathways with GPs and community services
    * Accurate documentation and data entry

What You'll Bring

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in Mental Health Nursing, Registered Nursing or related field
    * Current AHPRA registration
    * Experience in mental health assessment, risk management and care coordination
    * Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and community settings
    * Strong understanding of mental health legislation and health promotion

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing
    * Experience with complex needs, AOD and psychosocial presentations
    * Experience working with First Nations communities
