About the Role:
Are you a PE teacher eager to make a real impact on students' lives? Tradewind is partnering with a college that collaborates with Youth Justice Precincts and Secure Care Units in Melbourne's West. Starting in 2025, you'll have the opportunity to work with students aged 15-18 in small class settings, benefiting from excellent teacher support and well-being initiatives. The goal is to provide high-quality education tailored to the needs of young people in custody, in collaboration with the Department of Justice and Community Safety, as well as the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.

Key duties:

  • Designing and implementing engaging and developmentally appropriate PE lessons that align with the Victorian Curriculum.
  • Providing clear instruction and demonstration of movement skills, sports techniques, and fitness exercises.
  • Teach a range of topic related to physical education including health and well-being, nutrition, mental health and personal development.
  • Conducting physical fitness assessments to evaluate students' strength, flexibility, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness levels.
  • Ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment by implementing appropriate safety procedures and risk management strategies during physical activities and sports.
  • Organizing and maintaining PE equipment, sports gear, and facilities to ensure they are safe, functional, and accessible for students.
  • Integrating health education components into PE lessons to promote students' understanding of health-related topics such as nutrition, hygiene, mental health, and the benefits of physical activity.
  • Assessing students' progress and achievement in PE through various forms of assessment, such as skill demonstrations, performance tasks, fitness tests, and written assignments.

Skills & Experience:

  • Must have unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Current VIT registration
  • Demonstrate previous experience in teaching Health and PE within a Secondary setting in Australia
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
